Elaine Thompson, Fraser-Pryce and Powell suffer defeats

Jamaican sprinter Elaine Thompson had to settle for third in the women’s 200 metres at the fourth meeting of the 2016 IAAF Diamond League in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday.

Thompson stopped the clock at 22.16 seconds, placing third behind second placed Dafne Schippers, from the Netherlands with 22.11, and American Tori Bowie with a world leading 21.99.

Olympic 100-metre champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce also suffered a disappointing defeat at the meet, finishing last in the women’s 100 metres (11.18).

In the men’s 100 metres, Jamaican Asafa Powell finished second in a season’s best 9.94, while Justin Gatlin won the race easily in a world-leading 9.88.
